Coronaviruses in Bats
The COVID-19 pandemic likely started by a virus jumping from an animal into a human. Scientists are now worried that it will jump back into animals. If that happens, the virus could mutate further, leading to a rise in new variants that may be even more dangerous to humans, domestic animals, and wildlife. As a result, researchers are investigating whether bats in the Southwest have become infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
